An Edinburgh institution for decades, this multi-roomed bar has a unique ambience and character, helped by red decor, subdued lighting and literally thousands of pictures, musical instruments, hunting trophies and odd artefacts crammed into every corner. The previously strict management rules have been relaxed a little, but are there for the benefit of the Canny Man’s many regulars. Some of the interconnecting rooms are set aside for dining. At least one beer is from Caledonian. Children are not admitted.
